Does it really work with no internet?
Yes. Put the phone in Airplane Mode and use every feature. The model runs on the iPhone's own chip. The only things that need a connection are optional: signing in and using a friend pass.
How good is a model that fits on a phone?
Very good at the jobs it's built for: translation, reading documents, identifying things, quick answers and short writing. It is not a research assistant and it will tell you when it doesn't know. Answers take a few seconds.
Why iPhone 15 Pro and newer?
The model needs about 4 GB of memory while it works. Older iPhones don't have enough to run it reliably, and we would rather not ship something that stutters.
Which languages?
English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian and Cantonese. Voice input uses your phone's offline dictation packs, so it covers the languages you have installed.
What do you collect if I sign in?
Your name and email, and a phone number only if you turn on phone contact. Both marketing choices are off unless you switch them on, and you can delete the account from Settings. Details are in the privacy policy.
Is the download big?
About 3 GB, once, from the App Store. Updates only download what changed. That size is the reason it works in the places where downloading anything is impossible.
